Advertisement for MPhil/PhD in Clinical Sciences at The Department of Medical Research and Innovation, School of Medicine

The MPhil/PhD programme in Clinical Sciences at the department of Medical Research and Innovation, Schol of Medicine, University for Development Studies is designed to cultivate highly skilled and innovative researchers in the field of clinical sciences. The programme allows candidates to carry out in-depth clinical research in the field of medicine to promote and improve healthcare. It is open to highly motivated candidates who have proven to be academically outstanding and show a strong interest in clinical research.

Program Structure
The MPhil/PhD in Clinical Sciences is a full-time program that combines coursework with extensive research as well as Clinical rotation. The typical duration for the MPhil programme is a minimum of 2 years, while the PhD program extends for a minimum of  3 years, depending on the research progress and publication of results.

Admission Requirements

Qualifications for MPhil applicants
To qualify for admission, an applicant must hold MBChB, MBBS or MD degree or Pharm D or Health-based first degree.

Qualifications for PhD applicants
To qualify for admission, an applicant must hold a two-year master’s degree or membership or fellowship in the following science disciplines or specialized areas will be eligible to apply for the programme:

  1. Surgery and allied surgical specialties;
  2. Internal Medicine and therapeutics, geriatrics;
  3. Anaesthesia and Intensive care;
  4. Infectious diseases
  5. Clinical microbiology
  6. Immunology
  7. Rheumatology;
  8. Reproductive and maternal health;
  9. Paediatrics and Child Health;
  10. Family Medicine;
  11. Medical Genetics;
  12. Endocrinology 
  13. Clinical chemistry;
  14. Haematology
  15. Oncology;
  16. Clinical pharmacology;
  17. Sports medicine;
  18. Psychiatry;
  19. Clinical psychology;
  20. Dermatology;
  21. Human anatomy and physiology;
  22. Neurosciences;
  23. Clinical Nutrition;
  24. Clinical pathology;
  25. Clinical Sciences;
  26. Imaging methods in Medicine.

NB:
1. A detailed research proposal outlining the intended area of study.
2. Letters (2) of recommendation from academic or professional referees.
3. All applicants will go through a selection interview prior to the offer of admission.
