AIMS Collaborates with KTCSR-UDS to Organize Training on The UNESCO Recommendation on Science and Scientific Researchers (RSSR)

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Ghana (AIMS – Ghana) has in collaboration with the Kazuhiko Takeuchi Centre for Sustainability and Resilience (KTCSR), University for Development Studies (UDS), to organize a training and sensitization workshop on the UNESCO’s 2017 RSSR at the, Dr. Naa Andani Chamber at the Central Administration block on the Tamale Campus of the University for Development Studies on 3rd November, 2022. 

The opening and welcome address was given by Prof. Hamdiyah Alhassan, Director, Kazuhiko Takeuchi Centre for Sustainable and Resilience, UDS. According to her, the UNESCO Recommendation on Science and Scientific Researchers is an important standard-setting instrument which does not only codifies the goals and value systems by which science operates, but also emphasizes that these need to be supported and protected if science was to flourish.

The Keynote Address was given by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Seidu Al-hassan of the University for Development Studies, Tamale. He said since his assumption of office as the fifth Vice-Chancellor of UDS, it has been one of his priorities to help promote the welfare of the female lecturers and scientists. 

Ms. Adelaide Asante, Chief Operating Officer, AIMS Ghana, said the UNESCO Recommendation for Science and Scientific Researchers promotes a fair and appropriate status for scientific researchers and informs adequate national science, technology and innovation policies, and policies to ensure that societies use knowledge from all scientific fields in a responsible manner.  

A Presentation on Reports of SIDA Project was presented by Dr. Gordon Akon-Yamga, UNESCO RS/SR Resource Person, Research Scientist and Head, Commercial, CSIR-STEPRI. Participants were given certificates of participation.
