The Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies, Professor Seidu Al-hassan on 21st March, 2023 welcomed a team from theSOFTribe Limited. The visit was to introduce to the Vice-Chancellor and the university community, the company’s programs for students in the areas of agriculture, agribusiness and entrepreneurship. The visit was to also get the university sign as a partner onto the program.
As part of the partnership, students who will be enrolled will be given laptops, internet connectivity and educational content for specific value chains in Agriculture, Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship to augment the already existing curricula being taught in schools to better prepare students for the world of work.
The program places priority on enrolling students from low-income backgrounds, females and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Through the program, students among other benefits will access technology and learning opportunities across the agriculture and agriculture-related value chains. Enrolment onto the program by students comes with a cost at $150.00 which will enable the students have laptops and the internet connectivity.
Professor Seidu Al-hassan on his part reiterated the positive impact of agriculture globally and especially, to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. While placing emphasis on getting the youth in policy discourse, he reiterated the fact that UDS is a university that promotes pro-poor education. He therefore appealed to the team to consider amending their fee regime to make it possible for poor people to enrol.
The team from theSOFTribe was made up of Madam Sheila Assibey-Yeboah, Mr. David Bolton and Mr. Hilarion Nyarko.
Also present at the meeting was the Nyankpala Campus Principal, Professor George Nyarko, the Director of Finance Dr. Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, the Dean of the faculty of Agriculture, Professor Terry Ansah and Professor Raphael Adu Gyamfi also from the Faculty of Agriculture.
