In March 2023, when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo swore in three new members of the Electoral Commission (EC) governing board, prominent among the names, was that of Hajia Salima Ahmed Tijani, a proud alumna of the University for Development Studies, UDS.
Her appointment to the board of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, is in line with Article 43 (1 and 2) of the 1992 constitution which states that, “there shall be an Electoral Commission which shall consist of a Chairman, two Deputy Chairmen, and four other members. After her graduation from the University for Development Studies where she acquired a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Integrated Development Studies, Hajia Salima Ahmed Tijani, who is affectionately called “Nee Salima Sani Mahama’ by her close friends and relatives, has been working in the banking sector for close to two decades.
As of the time of her appointment to the EC board, she was a Senior Remittance Officer at the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
In addition to her Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrated Development Studies from UDS, she also has an MBA in Project Management from GIMPA and is currently pursuing another postgraduate programme, MSc Finance, at the Accra Business School. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and an Associate Member of the Board Room Institute.
