A 13-member Governing Council of the University for Development Studies, UDS, has been inaugurated. The short ceremony which came off at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Education in Accra on Monday, 12th February, 2024, saw in attendance, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who also swore in the members of the new UDS Governing Council.
The 13 members tasked to oversee the affairs of UDS for the next two years are Prof. Al-Hassan Wayo Seini (Chairman), Prof. Seidu Al-hassan (Vice-Chancellor),
Prof. Edmund Muonir Der (Convocation Professorial), Dr. Sanatu Mustapha Alidu (Convocation, Non-Professorial), Dr, Mohammed Mustapha Seidu (Education Commission, NCTE), Prof. Mamudu Abunga Akudugu University Teachers Association of Ghana) and Prof. Terry Ansah (Alumni Association).
The rest are Madam Rukaya Hussein (SRC), Mr. Abdulai Sherif Bawa (GRASAG), Mr. Alhassan Issah Dokurugu (CHASS), Mr. Kwasi Abankwa (President’s Nominee), Ms. Matilda Awiah Azuimah (President’s Nominee) and Mrs. Shiela Naa Boamah (President’s Nominee).
Addressing the Council at the inauguration, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, commended UDS for the strides that propelled it to rise to become one of the best Universities in the country. He commended the Management and the previous Council of the University for steering the University towards that enviable direction.
The Minister assured the Council of his maximum support. He, however, implored them to put behind all rankles and challenges that had besieged the University in past and to focus on the University’s core mandate of transforming Ghana through education.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Governing Council, pledged the Council’s readiness to do its very best to steer the affairs of UDS to new heights of academic excellence.
Also present at the event were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elliot Haruna Alhassan, the Registrar, Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar, the Director of Works and Physical Development, Ing. Kwame Debrah, and Mr. Thomas Azuure of the Council Secretariat.
