During the Launch of the University for Development Studies Endowment Fund, (UDSEF) many well-wishers who were present, pledged various amounts of money amounting to a total of one hundred and forty thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 140,000).
One of the main contributors at the launch was the Paramount Chief of the Sagnarigu Traditional area, Sagnar Naa Ambassador Yakubu Abdulai, who pledged an amount of twenty thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 20,000) donation to the UDSEF – a fund that aims at raising money to improve on infrastructure on campus and to assist needy but brilliant students to continue with their education.
On Friday May 6, 2022, the Sagnar Naa, represented by the Garizie Naa Alhassan Andani presented a cash donation of twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh20,000) to the University for Development Studies as a fulfillment of the pledge made at the launch of the UDSEF.
The cash donation was received on behalf of the university, by the Director of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, and the Director of ICT, Dr. Abdul Wahid Mohammed. Dr Shaibu, while commending the Sagnar Naa for being true to his word, requested his representative, Garizie Naa Alhassan Andani to convey the gratitude of the University to the Paramount Chief.
He expressed the view that supporting needy students is a capital investment in the nation, and that the donation would serve the critical needs of the students. He disclosed that the University is committed to enhancing the Endowment Fund in the next five years to one hundred million Ghana Cedis (GHC 100, 000,000). He said the management of UDS will keep the chief posted on how the funds will be managed.
The chief had in the past, also donated some parcels of the land at Datoyili, a suburb of Tamale, to university’s Graduate School for the construction of a permanent campus for Graduate Studies.
