The Counselling Unit Organises An Orientation For Freshers Ahead Of Their First Examination

The Counselling Unit of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has held a week-long orientation session for first-year students of the university ahead of their first experience of examinations as university students.

Officials from the various departments of the university were available to provide a detailed explanation of the rules and regulations as outlined in the university's statutes.

Among the areas covered were examination-related issues such as how to acquire and develop effective study habits, time management, what examiners look for when marking scripts, registration and deferment of courses, the UDS grading system, how to manage examination anxiety, and general life on campus.

The students were given the chance to voice out their concerns, share their initial impressions of campus, and make recommendations for the future.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Alhassan Musa advised them to abide by the rules and regulations that govern students' conduct and keep off activities that would not contribute positively to their future. He urged them to focus on their education and not allow negative influence of others affect them, adding that they should be disciplined, punctual and attend lectures regularly.

The counselor at the Tamale campus Madam Mary Braimah reminded the students that the onus of realizing their abilities lies solely on them and the efforts they put into their academic work. He encouraged the students not to hesitate to contact the counselling unit anytime they need advice or support.
