Under the auspices of the Ghana Commercial Agricultural Project (GCAP), the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) will support the University for Development Studies (UDS), with commercial agriculture production and training of students through the provision of a 200Ha Centre Pivot Irrigation system (CP).
The facility which is situated within the Botanga irrigation scheme in the Northern Region is valued at US$328,099.44.
These were contained in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two institutions. The Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Prof G.A Teye initialed for UDS while Mr. Osei Owusu-Agyemang penciled for GCAP.
In addition to assigning the CP to UDS, GCAP reserves the right to monitor the usage and impact of the CP over the period of the Agreement.
In a reciprocal gesture, UDS is expected to ensure that the CP is properly maintained and to submit quarterly progress reports on the project in a format to be agreed with the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist of GCAP. The signing was witnessed by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Felix K. Abagale. Also present at the Ceremony were Dr. Courage Sabah, Ag. Director, UDS International, Prof. George Nyarko – Principal, Nyankpala Campus, Mr. Edward Broni Boahene – Deputy Registrar for University Relations and Ms. Sauda Belko, also of the University Relations Department.
