The UDS School of Business has held its maiden orientation for fresh men and women at the Dr. Andani Andan Academic Chamber, at the Central Administration Block on the Tamale Campus. Present at the event, were the Dean of the School of Business, the Vice Dean of the School of Business, the Vice Dean of Students, and representatives from the library, the counselling Unit, Directorate of Community Relations and Outreach Programme, and the Senior Hall Tutor for TaTU Campus, and Heads of Department from the School of Business.
The orientation commenced with an address by the Dean of the School of Business, Professor Ibrahim Osman Adam, who welcomed the students to the University and the School. He stated that among the core principles of the School of Business is to provide excellence in all aspects of business studies as well as academia.
The Dean intimated that the school has made provision to identify excellent students within the various departments, and will provide learning materials and opportunities for such students in order for them to improve on themselves and prepare them adequately for the job market, even while in school.
He added that the School of Business has also identified some students with a few weaknesses, as far as their academic work is concerned. In view of this, such students will be given extra attention and assistance to help them catch up with their colleagues.
Professor Ibrahim Osman Adam encouraged the new students to focus on their studies, “build networks, and form collaborations to excel instead of competing with each other”, he said. He also advised them to make their Heads of Departments their first port of call when faced with a challenge.
The Vice Dean of Students’ Affairs of the Tamale Campus, Dr. Haruna Umar, congratulated the students on their admission to the University. He briefed the students on the accommodation system of the University. While telling the new students about available scholarship schemes, he took them through the scholarship application process as well.
He assured the new students of the School of Business that the office of the Dean of Students’ Affairs is always open to them and will assist them whenever the need arises.
Other Heads of Departments of the School of Business made presentations, mostly briefing the students on the courses available in the departments, and also encouraging them to do their best to excel in their programs, while upholding self-discipline and integrity.
