Prof. Moomin  Abu

Background

Prof. Abu Moomin (PhD) is a Postharvest Physiologist of Horticultural Crops with particular focus on agricultural research in fruit and vegetable crops. He earned PhD and MSc in Postharvest Physiology of Horticultural Crops; BSc in Crop Science, and Diploma in Agricultural Extension and Farm Management in Ghana. Prof. Abu has over twenty-five (25) years of professional consulting experience in Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching; and also belong to several professional associations. He is acknowledged as having conducted several studies/trainings in the agronomy, value addition, and quality maintenance and shelf-life enhancement of horticultural crops nationally and internationally. He teaches Advances in Postharvest Physiology, Horticultural Entrepreneurship Development, Postharvest Physiology and Technology, Horticultural Extension and Entrepreneurial Skills, Postharvest Physiology, Postharvest Biology and Technology, and Postharvest Technology; he has provided instruction in Advances in Vegetable Crop Production and Marketing, Vegetable Crop Production, Perishable Crop Storage, and in Produce Processing and Preservation - all at the Department of Horticulture/Department of Agricultural Mechanization and Irrigation Technology of the University for Development Studies, Ghana. Prof. Abu has held administrative positions in the university system. He trains students, growers, and other stakeholders in the fruit/vegetable industry in GLOBAL GAP. He has supervised several postgraduate and undergraduate students' dissertations/theses at UDS and also serves as internal and external examiner/assessor/reviewer locally and internationally. He serves as member of several Boards/Committees both inside and outside the University. Prof. Abu has served as a consultant to several clients including Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Tamale Technical University (TaTU), and assisted several Farmer Based Organizations (FBOs) to build capacity to understand farming as business, and develop business plans. Prof. Abu is a Lifetime Fellow of the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS).
