Introduction
The critical need to expand the national efforts in sustainably harnessing the vast natural resources to improve the industrialisation drive of Ghana has necessitated the establishment of the Department of Geological Engineering by the University for Development Studies (UDS) for students with the needed knowledge and skills in geological engineering and related disciplines. This effort is to complement the existing efforts towards improving the growing demand for scarce human capacities within the extractive sector of the economy. The Geological Engineering Department proposes a BSc degree programme in Geological Engineering with a multi-faceted curriculum that leverages on myriad of fields including but not limited to mineral and petroleum exploration and production, engineering materials utilisation, slope and foundation stability, water resources, environmental site design, surface and subsurface contamination, geothermal energy etc. The proposed programme is innovative and unique. These are manifested in the inclusion of various computer-based (application software in geological engineering practices) subjects and French language from levels 100 to 400. Thus, this programme seeks to respond to the required skills needs of the current and future players in the natural resources management, extractive industry as well and the built environment of Ghana.
Aim of the programme
The programme is aimed at training students with current knowledge and enhanced practical, analytical, research, computer application and entrepreneurial skills in Geological Engineering for national development.
Objectives of the programme
The objectives are to;
